We
set
up
Search
Engine
Ranking
Company
in
April/May
of
2006.
We
quickly
achieved
good
rankings
in
several
search
engines,
including
MSN
and
Yahoo.
Getting
a
decent
Google PageRank
took
a
little
longer,
but
a PR
of 4
was
achieved
at
the
first
PageRank
update
after
launch,
through
steady
and
appropriate
link
building
activity.
Things
were
looking
rosy...
But
it
quickly
became
apparent
that
as a
new
domain/web
site,
we
had
fallen
foul
of
the
dreaded
Google
Sandbox.
We
knew
we
were
faced
with
potentially
several
months
of
not
registering
for
any
of
our
critical
but
competitive
keywords
in
Google.
We
could
have
tried
constantly
tweaking
and
changing
the
structure,
content
and
coding
of
our
web
site,
but
we
knew
this
would
do
little
good
and
would
only
lead
to
enormous
frustration
and,
possibly,
even
a
longer
stay
in
the
Sandbox.
Instead
we
focused,
as
we
recommend
you
should,
if
faced
with
the
same
situation,
on
the
basics
of
good
search
engine
optimisation
practice:
-
we made certain our file names and META tags were set correctly
-
we gradually expanded the web site with good, on topic content, of relevance to real human visitors (as opposed to search engine robots)
-
we made certain that all of our web site pages were being correctly indexed by Google
- we continued to expand the number of quality, relevant link partner relationships
and...we
waited.
The
Current
Position
We
have
now finally
escaped
the
deadly
embrace
of
the
Google
Sandbox,
and
our
focus
on
ongoing
good practice
is
paying
dividends
in
top
search
engine rankings.
Not
surprisingly,
the
marketplace
for
SEO
firms
is
extremely
competitive
but,
with
good
practice
and
patience
(yes,
we
will
say
it a
million
times!),
top
search
engine
rankings
are
still
achievable.
